Alan Thrift (M. Mus)

Alan Thrift commenced his conducting career in 1954 while employed by the music branch of the Victorian Education Department. At that time, he trained and conducted 1200 school children in a performance for the Governor General on a visit to Ballarat, Victoria.

Since then, Alan has lectured in Music mainly at tertiary level, specialising in choral conducting and music education. He conducted the first television broadcast of a choral program on Channel 9, Sydney, in 1958. The ABC also broadcast and televised his choral performances.

Alan has toured Australia, New Zealand, the United States, England, Ireland and Wales where his choral performance have been highly commended.

Alan has been Musical Director of the Sydney Male Choir since 1990.
