musical director - keiren brandt-sawdy

Keiren joined the Sydney Male Choir as Musical Director in 2017.

Prior to this he studied piano at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. While he was an undergraduate, he appeared as the musical director of the Sydney University Dramatic Society’s production of The Threepenny Opera.

After graduating in 2013, he enrolled in the Masters Conducting course at the Conservatorium. During this time he was Musical Director and Composer for the Sydney University Arts Revue and composed music for the Sydney University Dramatic Society’s production of Much Ado About Nothing as well as being assistant to performances by the Conservatorium Choir and Orchestra (Mozart’s Requiem, 2014), The Early Music Ensemble (2015) and the Opera Unit (Malcolm Williamson’s English Eccentrics 2015).

In 2015 he graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium’s Masters programme, conducting Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite and Paul Stanhope’s Jetstream for his graduation concert. Since his graduation Keiren has been engaged as the assistant conductor for Pinchgut opera and in 2016 he was appointed musical director of Operantics.

With Operantics he has conducted the Australian Premiere of Jonathan Dove’s Opera, Mansfield Park and La Sonnambula. Keiren works regularly as a guest conductor with community orchestras and choirs around Sydney.

At the moment he’s busily preparing to take the Sydney Male Choir on a tour of New Zealand, and is looking forward to a very exciting year of music-making with them.
