Anzac Dawn Service, Martin Place

Sydney Male Choir have had the honour of singing at every Anzac Dawn Service in Martin Place, Sydney since it was initiated in 1928 when a crowd of 200 were present. The numbers attending has risen every year until now many thousand gather each year to remember those members of the armed forces of Australia and New Zealand who have died for them and their future in many different conflicts.

Fox Trackdown Studio

At this year's Town Hall concert our guest artist was Gavin Lockley and he invited the Sydney Male Choir to record the Australian National Anthem to be used on a cd  that he is producing. This evening at Fox Trackdown Studio was the result of that collaboration. For some of us it was a new experience to be in a recording studio, especially as we had to sing with an orchestral track that had already been recorded. Very interesting to be part of this process.

So how does all this work?

Organised by Neil Bevege, this concert was our first visit to this impressive venue where we had a very appreciative audience. Pity there weren't more in that audience but it was very encouraging for a first visit.

Cronulla Mall

An elite hit squad of choir members invaded the Shires with a taste of what they can expect when the full contingent arrives at the Sutherland Entertainment Centre on 29 May. Shoppers out in the Autumn sunshine were treated to a selection of songs from enthusiastic singers. Many of the shoppers stopped to hear the mini programme and there were many happy smiling faces when they heard what we had to offer. Fliers were handed out and tickets were sold to people who had never seen the choir before - they liked what they had heard! We look forward to seeing them in Sutherland when they will hear the full might of the choir.

Anzac Day Service 2011

Maintaining the tradition of supporting every Anzac Day Service held in Martin Place, Sydney the Sydney Male Choir braved the elements, together with several thousand people, to honour the fallen in all conflicts in which Australian and New Zealand men & women have taken part. It seems as if every 25th April is fated to be affected by rain and 2011 was no exception! The inclement weather did not stop the big crowd from showing their respects and, as usual, the service was attended by many from all walks of life and of all ages and they shared in the solemn and moving service.

Chevalier College, Burradoo

This was a return visit for the Sydney Male Choir to the glorious countryside of Autumnal colours of the Southern Highlands. It's a pity the weather couldn't have lived up to the golden colours being shown by the avenues of trees with a chill wind and rain. The locals, the brave folk that they are, reckoned it was 'bracing' but those from further north called it 'cold'.

However the welcome was anything but cold - the good folk of Bowral gave the choir a wonderful reception and for many it was a renewal of contact from last year. Again the worthy cause for the concert was the Challenge Southern Highlands charity which helps disabled people to flourish by providing support and employment at a local nursery. This cause is very close to the heart of Denise Layton, wife of ex-President Jim and it was fitting the Denise made the introductory remarks and Jim acted as Compère. The choir was in fine form and responded to the audience's enthusiasm by raising the level of performance to new heights. A varied programme was enjoyed by one and all  - choir as much as audience and 2 encores were requested! Invitations to return next year were numerous! Just make it a little warmer next year, please - and this is from a Pom!

Sydney Kings match

The Silver Kings are born!!
On Friday 1 April the Sydney Male Choir sang at the Sydney Kings basketball match held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. Despite the fact that one of the items performed was 'When the Kings go marching in' the Kings lost the last match of the season - better luck next year guys. There was a crowd of over 9,000 people there for the match and a quote from the Sydney Kings website summarises what they felt about the choir's performance - 'even an appearance by the Sydney Male Choir, who sang the National Anthem and wowed the massive crowd with their emotional, uplifting pre-game performance.' Rodney O the Sydney Kings presenter christened the Sydney Male Choir - the Silver Kings!
Here is a shot from Jann Eggins of the choir singing 'Advance Australia Fair'

Kiama Pavilion

Arranged to help support the work of the Christ Church, Kiama and the Spirit of uBuntu' s work via Rotary with HIV/Aids affected families in South Africa where a capacity audience enjoyed a varied programme of songs from the Sydney Male Choir and the piano playing of Mark Matthews. A few days before the concert Eleanor Gair, our Accompanist, injured herself, had to be taken to hospital and was unable to play. At the eleventh hour Houston located a former student of his, Bethany Morris, and she was able to understudy for Eleanor. Bethany received copies of the music on Friday and played for us on Sunday! What a remarkable performance and the Sydney Male Choir is very grateful for her contribution to a very rewarding concert. Here is more information about Bethany - Biog

We have been asked to return next year!
