The Alpha's Males concert of the massed voices of the Male Choirs' Association of Australia was a resounding success at the Sydney Town Hall on Sunday 14 November

A packed audience enjoyed a wide range of choral music from -

Arcadians Lamplighters Male Choir
Australian rugby Choir
Canberra Men's Choir
Ku-ring-gai Male Choir
Melbourne Male Choir
Orange Male Voice Choir
Rembrandt Male Choir
Sydney Male Choir
Wagga City Rugby Male Choir

and special guest choir - Wellington Male Voice Choir (NZ)

The programme was presented by Marian Arnold, presenter of 'Your requests' radio series on ABC Classic FM

The concert featured the consumate musicianship of Peter Kneeshaw on the magnificent Town Hall pipe organ. Peter played several solo pieces and also accompanied the choir.

Warringah Concert Brass with Musical Director John Saunders, Jr added the great sound of a British- style brass band and showcased the talents of their young player including solos from Vaughan Price, Flugal Horn and a stunning duet on Euphoniums - or is it Euphonia? - from Robert O'Brien and Matthew Hurditch.

Bringing it all together was the Guest Conductor, Alpha Gregory who certainly got the best out of her Males! Adding the accompaniment was the sensitive playing of Kylie Loveland on the piano

11th Annual City of Sydney Concert, Sydney Town Hall

What a great concert! Even if it was tinged with a little sadness as the Maestro Alan Thrift was too ill to be able to attend what should have been a grand farewell to this remarkable man after giving over 20 years of his life to the Sydney Male Choir. Happily Alan is well on the road to recovery and was reunited with the choir over the long weekend with great concerts at Dubbo & Dunedoo. Standing ovations at both venues were a tribute to the quality of the choir's performance and to that Thrifty magic!

Even with Alan's absence the 11th Annual City of Sydney concert on 12th September was a huge success. The hall was almost full, the audience were very receptive and enthusiastic, the Panorama Chorus were stunning and the Sydney Male Choir performed at the peak of their form. Great credit must go to our new Musical Director, Houston Dunleavy, who stepped into the shoes left vacant due to Alan's sickness and brought out the best in this great choir. We are very fortunate that Houston is now on board and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship.
